Automating intelligent buildings and integrating systems
Wellington Special Projects is the Wellington business unit where all of the corporation's capabilities — commercial design/build, building automation development, digital technology, and utility monitoring and control — come together to equip the intelligent buildings and smart integrated facilities that are becoming commonplace today.
Wellington Special Projects manages specialty installations: the hallmark of which is systems integration and automation. Wellington is a leader in the advanced field of integrated building systems, where a centralized processor controls a facility's various technologies, such as power, lighting, HVAC, digital communications, security, fire alarm, data, telephone, and video surveillance systems. Wellington is committed to providing integrated protection for people, property, and data, as well as operational functionality for buildings and processes.
Pittsburgh Suburban School District
The rash of security breaches and violent incidents at public schools across the country prompted a suburban Pittsburgh school district to contact Wellington Special Projects to provide design assistance and to implement one of the most advanced security and surveillance systems currently in operation. Wellington installed bus-mounted transponders for controlled student entrance and egress, and closed circuit television which digitally stores images for as long as 72 hours. In addition, a body heat sensing infrared system provides for daytime classroom lighting control as well as unoccupied evening surveillance. If a building intrusion should occur, the system enables local law enforcement to remotely monitor the disturbance via real-time CCTV and control school lighting to assist investigating officers.
This intelligent building solution provided by Wellington allows these security functions to be integrated with building control of heating and cooling, monitoring of utility usage, 24/7 lighting control, and universal energy conservation.
